The Virginia community mourns the loss of Stockton Tyler Watson, Sr., whose sudden passing on May 28, 2025, has touched many hearts. Known affectionately as “Stock,” he was a man whose vibrant personality, deep loyalty, and unwavering love for family, friends, and community left a lasting impression. His life, rich with achievements and passions, exemplifies the best qualities we all aspire to embody.
Born on June 14, 1968, in Virginia Beach, Stock Watson’s roots ran deep in Virginia. His early years laid the foundation for a life characterized by excellence, leadership, and passion. As a student at Norfolk Academy, he distinguished himself as a talented athlete and leader, excelling in football, basketball, and lacrosse. His athletic prowess and natural charisma made him a respected figure among peers, setting the stage for a lifetime of inspiring others.
After graduating in 1986, Stock pursued higher education at Hampden-Sydney College, where he continued to showcase his athletic talents on the lacrosse team, ultimately serving as captain during his senior year in 1990. His dedication to the sport and his teammates reflected his leadership qualities and his ability to motivate and inspire those around him.
Beyond athletics, Stock’s passions were diverse and vibrant. He loved music, film, and politics, engaging deeply with each interest. His love of sports extended into broadcasting, as he enjoyed calling Norfolk Academy and Hampden-Sydney lacrosse games alongside his good friend, coach, and mentor Tom Duquette. This passion for storytelling and sports commentary showcased his engaging personality and his desire to share his love of the game with others.
Throughout his life, Stock’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father to his sons, Roddy, Mac, and Stock, and he often expressed how proud he was of their achievements and their growth into young men. His love for his family was evident in every conversation, every smile, and every moment he shared with them.
Those who knew Stock describe him as a person with an extraordinary gift: the ability to make everyone feel valued, loved, and important. His kindness, sincerity, and humor made him a trusted confidant and beloved friend. His storytelling ability, combined with his impeccable timing and infectious laughter, brought joy to social gatherings and everyday moments alike.

In honor of his life, a celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th, at Galilee Church, 3928 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach. This event will be a time for loved ones and community members to come together, share memories, and honor the remarkable life of Stock Watson.
While his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit and the impact he made will remain forever.
